This collection focuses on Jane Loevinger's time in St. Louis, as a professor at Washington University and her work in the field of ego development. Loevinger's earlier professorship at UC Berkeley is also represented in the collection, to a lesser extent. Jane served as a founder of a new form of study in the field of ego development, a figure for women in the field of psychology and is recognized in her papers, and the documents in the collection.

These papers comprise of Mackenzie’s notes from courses that he taught at Washington University, a few personal writings, and numerous items that chronicle his interest in military matters from World War I and World War II.

The Martha N. Ozawa Papers includes typescript drafts and final versions of articles, chapters, lectures, etc. written by or edited by Martha N. Ozawa. Also included are materials toward Women's Life Cycle and Economic Insecurity: Problems and Proposals edited by Ozawa.
