The extensive correspondence is between Merrill and his family, friends, business associates, and others. Thousands of pages of heavily annotated notebooks, typescripts, worksheets, and galleys show Merrill's work towards poems, fiction, and drama. The audiovisual and personal material document other aspects of Merrill's life.

Collection of James Merrill manuscripts, inscribed books, photographs, ephemera, publications and realia. All materials belonged to Merrill's close friend, Claude Fredericks, an American poet, playwright, printer, writer, and a professor of literature at Bennington College.

The Modern Literature Audio Archive contains recordings of over 500 readings, talks, and lectures spanning more than 50 years. Most of the recordings are of events hosted by the English Department, Library, and International Writers Center. Other recordings come to us with authors' papers or are given by donors.

Hilda Morley Letter
Autograph letter signed from Morley to Adrienne Rich. 1 page. Morley sends along a book of poems (probably 'A blessing outside us') and reflects on her relationship with her late husband, the composer Stefan Wolpe.
