Description A notebook, 8vo, containing Roden Noel's autograph manuscript of a "Diary of a Tour in the East, 1858-9." This volume of approximately 260 closely written pages, tells the story, in diary and narrative form, of the "Grand Tour" undertaken by Noel after gaining his degree at Cambridge. John Addington, Symonds, in his introduction to a selection of Noel's poetry in A.H. Miles' "the Poets and Poetry of the Century" stresses the significance of this experience for Noel: "He spent two years alone...

Description

Passport, issued in 1863 for "The Honorable Roden Noel (British Subject accompanied by his wife, travelling on the Continent with a maid servant," bearing various visa stamps and signed by Noel. Preserved in a contemporary leather case, stamped with the bearer's name.
