Historical Information

The manuscript is characteristic of Ibronot literature concerning the Hebrew calendar, facilitating the determination of holidays, scriptural readings, etc. for Jewish travelers. The author, probably a rabbi, is unknown, though the book has an inscription giving the purchase date as the 4th of Kislev, 1649 (the volume itself may be considerably older). Front cover is missing; the back cover is blind-stamped pigskin, probably executed in the Protestant area of Germany (it bears roll-stamped portraits of Erasmus, Luther, and Melanchton). The manuscript features tables, diagrams, annotations, and marginalia, and includes the formula "The wise will understand sufficiently."
