Robert A. Hereford (1902-March 1961) was born in the Philippines, probably to John Robert Hereford and Maria de la Pas Martinez Hereford. By 1910 he was living with his aunt, Nancy Hereford, in Ferguson, Missouri. He eventually married Alice M. Hinckley, with whom he had at least three children. Robert worked as a journalist for the St. Louis Star-Times and was continually fascinated by local river lore. He died in March of 1961.
