Album inscribed on the fly leaf 'Emma,' containing autograph poems and tributes to Emma from her friends. 6 1/4 x 7 3/4" Red leather cover boards, designed and titled, Flowers of Loveliness, in gold leaf. Corner designs colored green.  Illustrations of flower-figures bound in. 42 pages.

Biographical Information

Emma P. Burton was born in 1844 to Edwin T. and Nancy P. Burton of Batesville, Arkansas. As a teenager she attended the Lasell Female Seminary in the Newton, Massachusetts village of Auburndale. On June 2, 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, Emma married Major Henry Ewing (1840-1873) at Engleside, Batesville. At least three children were born to the couple. At some point after her husband's death, Emma lived in St. Louis, Missouri. She also began traveling abroad regularly. On January 31, 1931, Emma died of bronchitis at the Hotel Savoy in Merano, Italy, where she was buried.
