Biographical Information

William N. Eisendrath, Jr. (March 4, 1903 – February 21, 1983) was a teacher and nationally known organizer of art exhibitions. As chairman of the exhibitions committee of the Arts Club of Chicago, Eisendrath organized one of the first American shows of the French Cubist painter Fernand Leger, and what is believed to be the first American exhibition of the Swiss painter Paul Klee. He also organized one of the first shows of the American Abstract Expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. He was a curator and professor emeritus of the history of art at Washington University in St. Louis. He recently received an honorary doctorate from the University of Missouri in St. Louis.
