Biographical Information
The families of Fountayne and Montague had their family seat at Melton Hall, Yorkshire, from at least the 17th century onward. The library described in this catalog probably belonged to Thomas Fountayne, Esq. (December 4, 1713-January 18, 1739), a graduate of St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, and aspiring poet. Thomas married Ann Carrow (or Carrew) on January 7, 1737, but died childless. His younger brother, John, inherited Melton Hall and eventually married Ann Montague in 1754.
