Biographical Information
Ruzena Stanley (May 12, 1919 - August 1994) was a Czech refugee that became a close friend with Elizabeth Jennings while at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford, England. Stanley escaped Prague after the German occupation during World War II and fled to Palestine. The remaining members of Stanley’s family were captured by Nazis and sent to and perished in concentration camps. After the end of the war, she travelled to Great Britain. Stanley remained tortured by despair, believing that she had betrayed her family and Judaism. After viewing Schindler’s List, which included real news footage of Auschwitz, Stanley committed suicide.
