Historical Information

The Release Press was founded in 1975 by Alan Ziegler (a poet), Larry Zirlin (a printer), and Harry Greenberg (an editor); they were also responsible for publishing SOME magazine, which they operated from 1972-1975. Release Press, which was run out of the homes of the editors in New York City, published its last book in 1983. The Release Press was interested in publishing first collections by emerging poets and prose writers, overlooked books by established writers, good manuscripts which had not been picked up by larger publishers, and unique books, such as collaborative works, by established writers. During its eight year run, The Release Press produced 15 books and several broadsides, including work by Jack Anderson, Philip Graham, Harry Greenberg, Karen Hubert, Bill Knott, John Love, Paul Oppedisano, B. Pelasi, Gay Phillipps, Steven Schrader, Terry Stokes, Ross Talarico, James Tate, John Yau, Alan Ziegler, Harry Zirlin, and Larry Zirlin.
