1870: December 25. Autograph story in verse titled "Ye legend of G.H.J., G.S.D., and .[N].D." concerning a trip to Europe, written as Christmas present, 21 pages

1886: March 23-1893: January 12.  The Hendschel Album. Album containing autograph poems and tributes to Clementina Zwarts from her friends. Inscribed on page 1 "Clementina Zwarts. St. Louis Mo. March 23, 1886."  Bound in blue with ocean scene.

Biographical Information

Clementina (Clementine) L. Zwarts was born to John H. and Clementine B. Zwarts of St. Louis on August 31, 1873. Her father was a well-to-do homeopathic pharmacist who eventually owned his own shop. Clementina married Herman Werner Luecke (1863-1954), a German immigrant and grocer, in 1894. The couple raised at least three children in St. Louis. Clementina died on May 28, 1965.

Henrietta Hochschild (July 24, 1917-February 4, 2000) was an educator who created teaching tools for children. Born in St. Louis, Hochschild earned a B.A. degree from Washington University in 1939 and a M.A.T. degree from Webster University in 1973. Her career included editing and publishing teaching kits for educators, volunteering in the original Reading is Fundamental project, and creating the learning center at Harris Teachers College, now Harris-Stowe State University.
