Biographical Information

Lorraine Lake was born February 12, 1918 to John W. and Elenora Lake of St. Louis. By 1940, she was living with her sister Bernice, working her way through college as a physical therapist. Lorraine was a member of the last class of 12 students to graduate from the Barnes Hospital School for Physical Therapy in 1948. She then joined the Washington University Program in Physical Therapy faculty as an assistant. Lake continued her education, receiving a bachelor's of science in 1950, a master's degree in 1954, and a Ph.D. in 1962 from Washington University. From 1961 until 1979 Lorraine Lake served as the associate director of the Irene Walter Johnson Institute of Rehabilitation.
