Washington University in St. Louis Websites Collection
Records include websites harvested with Archive-It beginning in February 2014. The majority represent Washington University in St. Louis academic schools, business units, and campus organizations. Also included are websites from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, University and Departmental Libraries and websites of some student run groups, organizations and publications. Websites are organized into groups by subject and are presented alphabetically. Subject names refer to Washington University in St. Louis unless indicated otherwise. In some cases, websites captured in the WUSTL Websites Collection have additional subjects indicating they are described in the finding aids of related collections. Historical Note
Washington University in St. Louis began using the World Wide Web in the 1990s. University Archives began harvesting websites with Archive-It beginning in February 2014. The majority of the collection represents Washington University in St. Louis academic schools, business units, and campus organizations. Source of Acquisition
In February 2014, University Archives began archiving selected websites of academic and business units, administration, and student groups and organizations at Washington University in St. Louis. The sites are captured with Archive-It at varying frequencies, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually, annually or a single time. From 2019 onwards, archival staff began capturing more websites and performed more robust quality assurance – reviewing the captured sites and adjusting parameters to achieve better capture. In August 2022, the collection was "waybackfilled;” that is, captures of the University's websites, collected by the Wayback Machine at archive.org beginning in 1996, were added to the collection. Therefore, some captures in this collection do not just go back to 2019, or 2014 - they now go back to 1996. Backfilling occurred on a selection of websites in this collection. However, these older captures have not undergone quality control, and are more likely to show missing or incomplete web pages than the ones captured by staff beginning in 2019.
