Biographical Information

David Bronsen (1926-1990) was a professor in German and comparative literature at Washington University in St. Louis. In 1974, Bronson published Joseph Roth: Eine Biographie, a meticulous biography establishing the facts of Roth’s life, and correcting many of the ‘myths’ surrounding this famously contradictory author. The David Bronsen Prize for Excellence in German, established in honor of Bronsen, is awarded to a graduating German major on the basis of excellent German language skills and superior academic achievement.
