Biographical or Historical Information

Alexander Buchan (October 7, 1897-July 1969) was a professor of English at Washington University in St. Louis from 1929 to 1966. His undergraduate work in English and Moral Philosophy was completed at Aberdeen University in 1919. Later, he complemented his undergraduate studies with advanced training at Oxford University. Before coming to Washington University, Buchan was head of the Department of English at Forres Academy from 1921 to 1924. He was in charge of the departments of English and Latin at Maryville College. He died in July 1969 at the age of 71.
