The files of the Radio and Television Office consist of general office files, administrative files of the director, and films and tapes documenting television projects produced by the office.

Series 01, 02, and 03 contain paper materials such as scripts, memorandums, correspondence, budgets, flyers, photographs, and other materials.

Series 04 contains audio visual materials on multiple formats, including film and video. Notations regarding the format of each is given after the item description, noting physical size, run-time if known, whether black and white (b/w) or color, and if silent or with sound. Also noted in square brackets is: if there is a technical inspection report, if there is a digital access copy, and / or if there is additional descriptive information at the archives.

Historical Information

The Washington University Radio and Television Office was founded in 1952 to plan, develop, and produce radio, television, and film programs for Washington University. These activities included civic affairs programming for the Washington University Civic Education Center, university course offerings on educational television, and filming of university events. The office was heavily involved in the establishment of St. Louis' public television station, KETC, and many of its programs were aired both on KETC and on St. Louis commercial television. The office closed in July of 1965.

Method of Acquisition

This material was donated to the University Archives by the Washington University Radio and Television Office in 1966.
