Historical Information

The Task Force on Undergraduate Education formed in 1992 by Provost Edward Macias.  It was chaired by Professor Burt Wheeler and composed of twenty-nine individuals from the faculty and student body. The group’s goal was to examine the present state of undergraduate education at Washington University and to determine goals for the future.  The three main tasks set by Provost Macias were to consider: “What do we want Washington University education to be? What are we doing now? How well are we doing?”

The committee met formally nineteen times between 1992 and 1994. The final report of the committee was incorporated into the 1994 Washington University North Central Association (NCA) accreditation self-study report.
