Student Committee For Admission of Negroes (SCAN) Collection
This collection includes documents that describe SCAN activities such as panel meetings, movie viewings, speakers, recitals, rallies and parades. The scrapbook also includes Student Life editorials along with other newspaper clippings, pictures, and some correspondence. It includes flyers for group activities and articles that show the results of a campus wide poll on the issue. Many newspaper clippings show the campus community’s responses to SCAN’s actions.

Biographical or Historical Information
This collection recounts activities of the Student Committee for the Admission of Negroes (SCAN) in 1949 and 1950. Judith Saul Stix filled the role of publicity chair and secretary/treasurer while in the group and kept a scrapbook detailing SCAN’s activities. The scrapbook includes documents that detail the activities of SCAN as they sought to persuade the Washington University Administration to allow African American students admission to undergraduate studies.
