Publications - Washington University Telephone Directories
The directories list students, faculty, and staff with their contact information. In most issues this includes their phone number and local address. Various issues also include marital status, home address, and academic year/program. In some years medical and dental students are listed in a separate section of the book. Student groups, such as fraternities and honoraries are occasionally also listed, giving officer names and contact information.
Researchers should note that although compiled with as much accuracy as possible, omissions and errors did occur. Additional names or corrections are occasionally listed at the end of the directory or directory section.

Historical Information
With the increasing use of the telephone, the University began publishing a phone directory in 1920. Previous to this, from 1854-1919, a roster of student names and addresses was printed in the Annual Course Bulletin (Catalogue).
The directory has changed names over the years. Originally published as “Directory of Faculty and Students” in 1927 student honorary associations began producing the booklet titled in different years as “Ternion” and “Chimes.” A “Washington University Telephone Directory” with staff office and phone numbers was also produced at various times.

This material was transferred to the University Archives over several years. Transfers are ongoing.
