Irving D. Moy was a former student of Roland Bockhorst and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1972. Moy continued to correspond with Bockhorst until his death in 1995. The Roland Bockhorst Correspondence to Irving D. Moy consists of Bockhorst’s side of the correspondence.

Biographical Information

Roland Walter Bockhorst was a professor emeritus in the School of Architecture of Washington University in St. Louis. He was born in St. Louis on January 16, 1905 and studied architecture at Washington University. In 1933, he was awarded the Steedman Traveling Fellowship. He taught courses in descriptive geometry, architectural graphics, and materials of construction and specifications for 36 years at Washington University, retiring in 1972. He also served as past secretary, treasurer, and vice president of the St. Louis chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In 1991, he received the AIA St. Louis Chapter Distinguished Gold Medal award for outstanding lifetime educational achievements and service to the chapter and the community. In addition, Bockhorst worked as a building inspector for the city of Ladue for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He died on May 31, 1995.
