The Arthur Ernst Koelle Papers primarily consists of correspondence to and from Koelle and his parents, Oscar and Virginia, and sister, Ruth, during his travels through France, Spain, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, England, and Scotland in 1925-1926. Also included are two architectural sketchbooks, oversized sketches, and photographs created or taken by Koelle during his travels. Finally included are a small number of photographs of the St. Louis Veiled Prophet Ball dais during the 1950s-1960s.

Biographical Information

Arthur Ernst Koelle was a Washington University alumni born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 27, 1901. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1923 and a Masters of Architecture in 1924. Koelle served as partner in the architecture firm of Rathmann, Koelle and Carroll. He also served as the president of St. Louis chapter of the American Institute of Architects from 1949-1950. Koelle died on January 18, 1987.
