"Connections: The Work of Charles and Ray Eames" Symposium Collection consists of notes, clippings, press releases, correspondence, etc. relating to “Connections: The Work of Charles and Ray Eames,” an exhibit, spanning four decades, shown jointly at Steinberg Gallery and at Laumeier Park Gallery in 1977. Also includes are materials toward “Charles Eames Symposium: A Reasonable Intersection of Interest in Science, Art, the Humanities and Social Concerns” held at Washington University and the Charles Eames Oral History Project.

Biographical or Historical Information

Charles Ormond Eames, Jr (June 17, 1907– August 21, 1978) and Bernice Alexandra "Ray" Kaiser Eames (December 15, 1912 – August 21, 1988) were husband and wife American designers who made significant historical contributions to the development of modern architecture and furniture. The design office of Charles and Ray Eames functioned for more than four decades (1943–1988), originating a number of important designs including the molded-plywood DCW (Dining Chair Wood) and DCM (Dining Chair Metal with a plywood seat) (1945), Eames Lounge Chair (1956), the Aluminum Group furniture (1958), and the Eames Chaise (1968).
