Historical Note

To view the WashU in the News COVID-19 Collection in Archive-It visit https://archive-it.org/collections/13766.

University Archives began harvesting COVID-19 websites with Archive-It beginning in March 2020, and in December 2022, chose to end the collecting initiative because of the dwindling number of relevant articles. The majority of the collection represents general interest, freely accessible news web pages (local, national, and international) featuring articles, interviews, and quotes from WashU faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, this collection has been added to the COVID-19 Web Archive [https://covid19.archive-it.org/], which is a shared access portal built and maintained by the Internet Archive. This archive gathers together more than 154 individual web archive collections created by more than 120 libraries, archives, and cultural heritage organizations.

Source of Acquisition

In March 2020, University Archives began reviewing the daily email sent by University Marketing and Communications for references to articles with COVID-19 content. The articles were captured with Archive-It and reviewed for quality assurance.

Articles weeded from the archive include those with a limited amount of WashU-related content, with restricted access (paywall), or with media not suited for capture by a web crawler.
