Biographical or Historical Information

Henry Raleigh was an American Illustrator, active between 1910-1940. Known as the Gatsby Era Story Illustrator (Chris Raleigh), Henry created illustrations for many well-known authors for books and magazines, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and H.G. Wells. Raleigh started off as a newspaper artist, but later became widely respected and sought after for his unique and distinct style of illustration. He also created several posters for WWI. By his 25th year as an illustrator, he had completed over 20,000 illustrations, and did very well for himself during the Depression.

Method of Acquisition

This collection was purchased by the Modern Graphic History Library from Chris Raleigh in April 2015. In addition to purchasing the collection, select items were also donated.
