Maritz and Young Collection
This collection includes architectural drawings for residential and commercial buildings designed by Maritz and Young. The original order of the architectural drawings has been preserved in Series 01 through Series 04 and addresses are given when known. Series 05 is a card index that chronicle’s the firm’s projects. Series 06 was added to the collection at a later date and consists of supporting material including photographs of their projects and a list of their library.

Biographical Information
Raymond E. Maritz (b. St. Louis, 1893; d. St. Louis, 1973) and Ridgely Young (n.d.) were responsible for designing a plethora of affluent residences and commercial edifices primarily in St. Louis County, Clayton, Ladue, and University City, Missouri.
Maritz studied architecture both at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris, France.

Method of Acquisition
Material in Series 01 through 05 was donated to the University Archives by Raymond Maritz, Jr. (Raymond Maritz’s son) in April 2004. Raymond Maritz, Jr. gave the material in Series 06 to the College of Architecture in the School of Architecture, and then the School gave them to University Archives in June 2006. Some individual plans for some projects have been added by individuals at various times.
