Biographical or Historical Information

Clobert Bernard Broussard was born in Avery Island, Louisiana, January 23, 1900. In 1918, he settled in St. Louis. Broussard received his B.S.L. degree in 1926 and his M.A. degree in 1945, both from Northwestern University.

Broussard was an elementary school principal in St. Louis from 1952 to 1969.  He was involved in the St. Louis Urban League and served as president from 1949 to 1951.  In 1953 and 1955, he was the recipient of St. Louis Urban League Achievement Award.  His other activities included serving as secretary for the St. Louis Charter Board of Freeholders in 1956 and 1957, commissioner for St. Louis City Plan Commission from 1956 to1965, member of the St. Louis Board of Alderman from 1969 to 1975.  Broussard died, in Santa Barbara, California, April 1994.

This material was donated to the University Archives by Valena Broussard Dismukes in November 1994. [Four books were donated to the Rare Books Department also by Valena Broussard Dismukes in November 1995. Please see the library catalog to locate these items.]
